Chapter 7: The Agreement That Changed Everything
The envelope looked ordinary.
That was the strangest part.
After everything that had happened — the billion-dollar company, the inheritance battle, the hidden betrayal — I expected something dramatic.
A locked box.
A secret vault.
Something worthy of a family empire.
Instead, there was a simple brown envelope sitting on a marble table in a mansion filled with priceless artwork.
But everyone in the room treated it like it contained a bomb.
Walter stared at it.
Samuel stared at Walter.
And Victoria looked like she had just discovered that the entire history of her family was built on a lie.
“Open it,” Samuel said.
Walter didn’t move.
“Samuel…”
“Open it.””
His voice wasn’t angry.
It was tired.
Like he had been waiting thirty years to say those words.
Slowly, Walter picked up the envelope.
His fingers trembled.
Inside was a stack of old papers.
The edges were yellow.
The ink had faded.
But the signatures were still visible.
Walter read the first page.
Then the second.
And the color drained from his face.
“What is it?”” Victoria asked.
Walter didn’t answer.
I stepped closer.
“Walter?””
He looked up.
“This is the original partnership agreement.””
Samuel nodded.
“The one you thought disappeared.””
The room became silent.
Walter placed the papers down.
“I searched for this for years.””
“I know.””
“Why did you keep it?””
Samuel looked at him.
“Because I wanted to know if you would ever admit what you did without being forced.””
Walter lowered his eyes.
That answer hurt him.
And I realized something important.
Samuel wasn’t here for revenge.
If he wanted revenge, he could have destroyed Walter years ago.
He waited because he wanted something else.
The truth.
“What does the agreement say?”” I asked.
Samuel looked at me.
“It says Madden Global was never supposed to belong to Walter alone.””
Victoria looked shocked.
“What?””
Samuel pointed to the document.
“Fifty percent belonged to me.””
Walter closed his eyes.
“I know.””
“And when you created the company without me…”
Samuel’s voice became quieter.
“You erased me.””
Nobody spoke.
I looked at Walter.
For the first time since I met him, I didn’t see a billionaire.
I saw a man carrying thirty years of guilt.
“Why?”” I asked.
Walter looked at me.
The question seemed harder than any legal battle.
“Why did you do it?””
He sat down.
“When we created the technology, investors wanted control.””
He paused.
“I was younger. Ambitious. Terrified of losing everything.””
“You chose money.””
“Yes.””
The honesty surprised me.
“I convinced myself I was protecting our dream.””
Samuel laughed softly.
“Everyone tells themselves that.””
Walter looked at him.
“I was wrong.””
Samuel didn’t respond.
Walter continued.
“I should have told the truth.””
“Yes.””
“I should have shared everything.””
“Yes.””
“I should have found you.””
Samuel’s expression changed.
Only slightly.
But I saw it.
A wound that had never healed.
“You should have.””
The silence afterward was painful.
Then Victoria spoke.
“So what does this mean now?””
Everyone looked at her.
She held the agreement.
“If this is real…”
Samuel nodded.
“It is.””
“Then legally, my father’s company isn’t what everyone thinks it is.””
“No.””
Victoria looked at Walter.
“Why didn’t you tell us?””
Walter answered quietly.
“Because I was ashamed.””
That surprised me.
A man like Walter Madden had everything.
But shame had followed him longer than success.
Then his phone rang.
Everyone turned.
Walter looked at the screen.
His expression changed.
“Daniel.””
He answered.
“Where are you?””
A pause.
Then Walter’s face hardened.
“What did you do?””
My stomach tightened.
Another pause.
Then Walter slowly lowered the phone.
“What happened?”” I asked.
He looked at Samuel.
Then at Victoria.
“Daniel has called a board meeting.””
Victoria frowned.
“Why?””
Walter’s voice was quiet.
“Because he intends to remove me.””
“What?””
“He believes I am no longer capable of leading the company.””
I shook my head.
“He’s trying to take control.””
Walter nodded.
But there was something else.
Something worse.
“He also has someone supporting him.””
“Who?””
Walter looked at Samuel.
And I immediately knew.
The answer wasn’t going to be simple.
“A person who knows every secret inside Madden Global.””
The room froze.
Samuel looked toward the window.
Then said:
“Then it’s time.””
“Time for what?”” Victoria asked.
May you like
Samuel turned around.
“To show everyone what really happened thirty years ago.””
