Chapter 10: The Daughter of the Enemy

Lena did not remember falling.

One second she was standing.

The next, Victor was holding her upright.

The ballroom spun around her.

The name on the screen burned into her mind.

*Lena Romano.*

Not Hart.

Romano.

The name she had feared.

The name whispered by people who lowered their voices.

The name attached to power, violence, and blood.

Her blood.

“No,” she whispered.

Victor looked as shaken as she felt.

“This isn’t possible.””

Dmitri stared at him.

“Boss…”

Victor ignored him.

He looked at Lena.

“I would have known.””

The words sounded like he was trying to convince himself.

Lena pulled away.

“You didn’t know?””

“No.””

“Everyone has known something except me.””

The pain in her voice stopped him.

Because she was right.

Everyone had carried pieces of her life.

Everyone except her.

Victor closed his eyes.

Then the speakers crackled again.

Leon’s voice replaced the recording.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?””

The entire ballroom turned.

The screens showed Leon Mercer standing inside an airport hangar.

Beside him was Lena’s mother.

Alive.

Terrified.

“Twenty years of secrets.””

Leon smiled.

“And now everything comes home.””

Victor stepped forward.

“Leon.””

“Yes.””

“You used her.””

Leon laughed.

“Used her?””

He looked at Lena.

“No.””

His expression became serious.

“I protected her.””

Lena felt disgust.

“By lying to me?””

“By keeping you alive.””

“You destroyed my family.””

Leon’s face changed.

“You don’t know what your family was.””

The words cut deeper.

Victor looked at the screen.

“Where is the evidence?””

Leon smiled.

“You still think this is about evidence.””

“Then what is it about?””

“Legacy.””

A pause.

“The Romano family built the Black Crown.””

Victor’s face hardened.

“My father did.””

“Yes.””

Leon looked directly into the camera.

“And your brother helped him.””

Lena stared at Victor.

“My father?””

Victor looked away.

The answer was there.

A painful answer.

“Yes,” he whispered.

The room went silent.

Lena felt betrayed all over again.

Victor continued:

“Your father was my brother.””

She looked at him.

“You knew?””

“No.””

His voice broke slightly.

“I knew I had a brother who disappeared.””

A pause.

“But I never knew he survived.””

Leon smiled.

“There’s the truth.””

He looked at Lena.

“Your father changed his name because he wanted to escape the family.””

“Why?””

“Because he realized what they had created.””

Leon leaned closer to the camera.

“He tried to destroy the Black Crown.””

Lena whispered:

“And you killed him.””

Leon looked away.

For the first time, something like regret appeared.

“I didn’t want to.””

Nobody expected that.

Even Lena.

“What?””

Leon sighed.

“Your father was my friend.””

“Then why?””

“Because he chose morality over loyalty.””

His eyes hardened.

“And people like that always think they can save everyone.””

Lena felt tears burning.

“My mother knew?””

“Yes.””

“Victor knew?””

“No.””

Leon smiled faintly.

“That was the irony.””

He looked at Victor.

“The man who spent his life protecting strangers never protected his own family.””

Victor accepted the words.

Because he knew they were true.

Then Lena noticed something.

Behind Leon.

A door.

A reflection.

A person standing there.

She looked closer.

Her breath stopped.

“Leon.””

He paused.

“What?””

“Who is behind you?””

Leon turned.

Too late.

A figure stepped from the shadows.

An older man.

Gray hair.

Cold eyes.

Lena recognized him immediately.

The photograph.

The man who had watched her years ago.

Her father.

Alive.

Everyone froze.

Victor whispered:

“Adrian.””

The man looked at Lena.

“My daughter.””

Her entire world shattered.

“You’re alive.””

“Yes.””

“Why?””

The older man’s face softened.

“Because I needed you to survive.””

Lena shook her head.

“No.””

She stepped back.

“You don’t get to say that.””

The man looked hurt.

But she didn’t care.

“You let me believe you were dead.””

“I had no choice.””

“You always have a choice.””

Silence.

Then Adrian looked at Victor.

“I’m sorry.””

Victor stared.

“For what?””

“For leaving you with the empire.””

A terrible realization crossed Victor’s face.

“You were the one who built the original Black Crown.””

Adrian nodded.

“Yes.””

Lena felt sick.

Her father.

The man she had loved.

The man she mourned.

Had been part of the darkness.

But then Adrian continued.

“And I was the one who destroyed it.””

Everyone stopped.

Adrian looked at Leon.

“He wanted power.””

Leon’s expression changed.

“You betrayed me.””

“No.””

Adrian shook his head.

“I corrected my mistake.””

Leon raised his weapon.

Everything happened at once.

Victor moved.

Dmitri moved.

Lena moved.

But Adrian was faster.

Not with a gun.

With a small device.

He pressed a button.

The lights above Leon flickered.

The sprinklers activated.

Security doors slammed shut.

Leon looked around.

“What did you do?””

Adrian answered calmly.

“Ended the Black Crown.””

Sirens filled the building.

Police.

Federal agents.

Every hidden file Leon had collected began uploading from the warehouse servers.

His empire was collapsing in real time.

Leon stared at Lena.

“You think this changes anything?””

Lena looked at him.

“Yes.””

“Why?””

“Because you spent your whole life believing fear was stronger than truth.””

She stepped closer.

“But you forgot something.””

Leon watched her.

“What?””

Lena looked at Victor.

Then at her father.

Then at the life she had been forced to understand.

“Truth survives.””

Months later, the Grandeur Hotel reopened.

The headlines changed.

The names changed.

The world learned about the Black Crown.

But not everything became simple.

Some wounds did not disappear.

Some betrayals stayed.

Lena never forgot what happened.

But she stopped letting the past decide who she was.

Victor stepped away from the empire he inherited.

Dmitri remained beside him.

Clara spent her life exposing the organization her father created.

And Adrian Hart—Adrian Romano—turned himself in, accepting responsibility for the things he had done.

As for Lena…

She kept the maid uniform.

Not because she needed it.

Because she wanted to remember.

The night she punched Victor Romano was supposed to be the moment she entered his dangerous world.

Instead, it became the moment she discovered her own.

Years later, when people asked her how she survived a night surrounded by criminals, secrets, and betrayal, she always gave the same answer.

“I wasn’t brave because I wasn’t afraid.””

She smiled.

“I was brave because I was tired of being invisible.””

And everyone who heard the story remembered one thing.

The most powerful man in New York was saved by the woman nobody noticed.

A poor maid.

A forgotten daughter.

May you like

A girl who threw away a glass of poisoned champagne…

And changed the fate of an entire empire.
