Chapter 7: The Message Only Noah Could Unlock

The tiny red light blinked inside the wooden box.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

Nobody in the workshop moved.

Not Hammer.

Not Isaiah.

Not Marcus.

Not even the men standing behind him.

Because everyone understood what they were looking at.

The box was not just a container.

It was a message.

A message Daniel had hidden for his son.

Noah stared at it with wide eyes.

“Is it supposed to do that?””

Emily immediately pulled him closer.

“I don’t know.””

Hammer looked at Isaiah.

“What did Daniel put inside?””

Isaiah shook his head.

“I don’t know everything.””

Hammer’s eyes narrowed.

“You expect me to believe that?””

Isaiah looked tired.

“Believe whatever you want.””

He pointed toward the box.

“But Daniel made sure I couldn’t open it.””

Emily looked confused.

“Why?””

Isaiah looked at Noah.

“Because it wasn’t meant for adults.””

Marcus laughed from the doorway.

“You expect us to stand here while a child opens a secret?””

Isaiah looked at him.

“Yes.””

Marcus’s smile disappeared.

“Why?””

“Because Daniel knew you would come.””

The room became silent.

Marcus’s expression changed.

Just slightly.

But everyone saw it.

Hammer noticed.

“You knew about the box.””

Marcus didn’t answer.

That was enough.

Emily felt a cold wave move through her.

“You knew my son had this?””

Marcus looked at her.

“I knew Daniel hid something.””

“No.””

Her voice hardened.

“You knew about the box.””

Marcus said nothing.

And suddenly, all the excuses and explanations from the past began to collapse.

Emily remembered every visit.

Every question.

Every time Michael or Marcus or anyone else had casually asked about Noah’s drawings.

They weren’t checking on him.

They were searching.

Hammer stepped forward.

“You’ve been watching them.””

Marcus smiled.

“Everyone watches what matters.””

The words made Emily’s skin crawl.

Hammer’s voice became dangerously quiet.

“You don’t get to talk about them like they’re objects.””

Marcus looked amused.

“You still don’t understand, do you?””

He looked around the room.

“This was never about Daniel.””

Isaiah’s expression changed.

“Then what?””

Marcus looked directly at Noah.

“It was always about what Daniel left behind.””

Emily tightened her hold on her son.

“You’re not getting near him.””

Marcus sighed.

“Daniel always made things difficult.””

Hammer’s fist clenched.

“Don’t say his name.””

Marcus ignored him.

“He believed love could protect people.””

A small smile appeared.

“It couldn’t.””

The words caused something inside Hammer to snap.

He moved forward.

Fast.

Several men raised their weapons.

But Isaiah stepped between them.

“Not here.””

Hammer looked at him.

“You’re protecting him?””

“No.””

Isaiah’s voice was cold.

“I’m protecting Noah.””

That stopped everyone.

Because for the first time, Isaiah and Hammer wanted the same thing.

The boy safe.

The wooden box continued blinking.

Noah looked at it.

“Dad said my name.””

Everyone turned.

“What?””

Noah touched the side of the box.

“Before he died.””

Emily crouched beside him.

“What did he say?””

Noah looked down.

“He said I would know what to do.””

Hammer’s expression softened.

“Do you?””

Noah hesitated.

Then nodded.

Emily looked surprised.

“What do you mean?””

Noah opened the box fully.

Inside was a small device with a screen.

No buttons.

No keyboard.

Only a place for a fingerprint.

Hammer frowned.

“That’s locked.””

Isaiah shook his head.

“No.””

Everyone looked at him.

“It isn’t locked.””

He looked at Noah.

“It’s waiting.””

The boy stared at the device.

“For me?””

Isaiah nodded.

“Your father designed it that way.””

Emily’s eyes filled.

Daniel had planned this.

He had known.

Somehow, he had known.

Noah slowly placed his finger on the scanner.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then the screen turned on.

A single word appeared.

WELCOME, NOAH.

Emily covered her mouth.

Hammer closed his eyes.

Even Marcus looked shaken.

Because this was no accident.

Daniel had built a message specifically for his son.

A video appeared.

Noah pressed play.

The screen showed Daniel.

Older.

Tired.

Sitting somewhere dark.

But alive.

Emily’s breath disappeared.

“Hey, buddy.””

Noah immediately started crying.

It was the first time all day he had cried.

Not from fear.

From hearing his father’s voice.

Daniel smiled sadly.

“If you’re watching this, it means you found Hammer.””

Noah looked at the giant biker.

Hammer looked away.

Daniel continued.

“I know you probably have questions.””

A small smile.

“You always did.””

Noah wiped his eyes.

Emily almost laughed through her tears.

Because that was Daniel.

Even in a secret recording, he sounded like himself.

Daniel looked into the camera.

“But before anything else, I need you to know something.””

He paused.

“I never left because I wanted to.””

Emily closed her eyes.

The sentence hurt.

Daniel continued.

“I spent my whole life trying to fix mistakes I made when I was younger.””

The screen flickered.

“I made choices that put people I loved in danger.””

Hammer stared at the video.

“I trusted the wrong people.””

A pause.

“And I didn’t trust the right ones enough.””

The camera moved slightly.

Daniel looked down.

“If Hammer is there, I need you to listen carefully.””

Hammer looked up.

“Protect my son.””

The room became silent.

Daniel continued.

“But don’t protect him from the truth.””

Emily looked at Hammer.

The irony was painful.

Daniel knew him too well.

“He deserves to know what happened.””

The screen flickered.

Then Daniel said something nobody expected.

“Because the person who betrayed me is someone Noah already knows.””

Emily froze.

Hammer stared.

Isaiah looked toward Marcus.

Marcus’s face became unreadable.

Daniel continued.

“Someone who has been close to our family for years.””

Noah looked at his mother.

Emily felt her heart race.

“Dad…”

Daniel’s voice softened.

“Noah, I need you to remember something.””

The video paused.

Then continued.

“People can change.””

A pause.

“But some people only pretend.””

The screen went dark for a second.

Then a second file appeared.

A name.

EMILY.

Her entire body froze.

“No.””

Hammer looked at her.

The file had her name.

Daniel had left a message specifically for her.

Marcus smiled slightly.

“Interesting.””

Hammer looked at him.

“Shut up.””

Noah looked confused.

“Mom?””

Emily stared at the screen.

She didn’t understand.

Why would Daniel leave her a message?

What had he discovered?

What had he been hiding?

She pressed the file.

Daniel appeared again.

This time, he looked more serious.

“Emily.””

Her eyes filled instantly.

“My love…”

She covered her mouth.

Daniel continued.

“If you’re watching this, then you already know something is wrong.””

The room felt smaller.

“You’re probably angry with me.””

A weak smile.

“You have every right to be.””

Emily looked down.

Daniel continued.

“But there is something I never told you.””

Hammer watched her carefully.

Marcus leaned slightly forward.

Daniel looked directly into the camera.

“The night before I disappeared…”

The video glitched.

Everyone leaned closer.

Daniel’s voice became distorted.

Then returned.

“I found out someone had been using your name.””

Emily froze.

“What?””

Daniel continued.

“They were pretending to be you.””

Nobody moved.

Hammer looked confused.

Isaiah’s expression changed.

“What?””

Daniel looked frightened.

“They used your identity to access information.””

Emily shook her head.

“No…”

Daniel continued.

“I thought it was a mistake.””

The video flickered.

“Until I found the messages.””

Hammer stepped closer.

“What messages?””

Daniel’s recording continued.

“Emily…”

A pause.

“If anyone tells you I stopped trusting you…”

His eyes filled with sadness.

“Don’t believe them.””

Emily felt tears falling.

“Because the truth is…”

The screen glitched again.

The last few seconds distorted.

Then Daniel’s final words came through.

“I wasn’t afraid of you.””

A pause.

“I was afraid someone had stolen your life.””

The video ended.

Nobody spoke.

Emily stood frozen.

Because the message had changed everything.

Daniel wasn’t accusing her.

He was warning her.

Hammer looked at Isaiah.

Isaiah looked at Marcus.

And Marcus no longer looked confident.

Because Daniel’s message had just revealed something none of them expected.

The person who had been using Emily’s identity…

Was still using it.

A phone rang.

Everyone turned.

It came from Marcus’s pocket.

He looked at the screen.

His expression changed.

Hammer noticed.

“Who is it?””

Marcus slowly answered.

Nobody could hear the voice on the other end.

But they saw Marcus’s face.

For the first time…

Fear.

He ended the call.

Isaiah spoke quietly.

“Who was that?””

Marcus looked at the door.

Then at Noah.

Then at Hammer.

And whispered:

“The person who started all of this.””

The room went silent.

“Who?””

Marcus looked at Emily.

May you like

And said:

“Your husband.””
